SARKAR: A Review
We can call this blog a meeting of purposes, or a marriage of convinience, or demand meeting supply, or other things like that.
Actually, I was in search of new topics for my blog to keep it going and was in no mood to post one more of those sad musings (a la Atal Vajpayee...but then i think his musings were more hopeful) but nothing else worth reporting was happening....here is the demand.
Lots of time when I see a good movie (now lets not try and define a good movie), and it happens very often if its a Amitabh Bachchan movie, I itch to write something on it and it takes me two days of laziness to get over the itch. But after I saw Sarkar, I actually ended up writing about it i.e. a sort of movie review. The article has since been waiting a suitable platform to make itself public....here is the supply.
So what better thing to do than to let each one satisfy the need of other. Enjoy the review (I know its a little dated and irrelevant now but then....for my sake)
The Birth of a Son
Abhishek Bachchan has had everything going for him these days. A fine actor, the most eligible bachelor…. he had proved his mettle against all his contemporaries and established that he is second to none. Yet there was one hurdle still to overcome… the large looming shadow of his legendary father with whom avoiding comparison was impossible and equalling or overshadowing him – even more impossible. And then Amitabh Bachchan and Ram Gopal Verma come forward with Sarkar.
In the first half Amitabh Bachchan is the all powerful, never wrong custodian of his brand of justice – in short THE GOD, which he anyway has become after Black. In second half when the junior B informs the father that he has killed his brother, this invincible God, looking crestfallen, asks “Ab (What next)?” to his son with a question mark on his face. And how the son delivers! The supreme style with which he confronts the goons and avenges his father is breathtaking…. Abhishek Bachchan deserves all the kudos he has got and much more.
In the end while Amitabh is just the public face, Abhishek with all the responsibilities is the real SARKAR. That is the mantle Amitabh would like his son to don. And that is the challenge ahead of Abhishek.
