The Trees

Had come across this song once (actually had come across the writing and had thought it to be a poem) and somehow it remained with me...

Rush

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Thoughts and fears canvassing

Having taken one of the boldest decisions of my life yet (strange how timing can make a decision seem from natural to bold – taking the same decision last year would have seemed most natural though the end results would have been horrific, and now it seems one of the boldest decision of life with results completely unknown – actually this unknown factor is what seemingly makes it bold), I am being harassed by all kinds of thoughts and fears playing in my mind. About the timing of it, the soundness of it and the outcome of it.

Now two weeks into it, I still am grappling to find my lost touch – am I that good any more as I used to think I was? The logics do not sink immediately. The most intelligent questions do not strike naturally. Is it a matter of time? Or has the damage been permanent? Hope this aspect sorts itself out sooner than later and positively else very tough times are ahead.

Second and perhaps most horrific fear is about the outcome. The thought is enough to send shivers down the spine. Deep into loan, no security net to fall on, the aspiration sector almost wiped off removing almost all chances of landing into the desired place, being a misfit at other places, current scenario showing no signs of relenting…..let me not think of it anymore. Am adequately scared. Time to dive back into books and survive on hope.

Love Letters....a play

watched my first play in Hyderabad...a good one...here is what i think about it..

Love Letters

The storyline left me slightly confused. Two very different individuals representing two stereotypes – a conformist, rooted in traditions, goes by rulebook, even timid fellow and a rebellious, free spirit, enjoy-the-moment girl – their life takes their separate courses but they remain strongly interconnected all the time. At the end, while the fellow is at a very respectable position in society, the girl is dead after innumerous heartbreaks, stints at rehabilitation centre, failed attempts at art and grovelling before her ex-husband for custody of her estranged daughters and her friend, our man, for companionship, support and love (not to forget sex). In the words of the girl, the best and the worst of their generation. But is this how the life treats the timid and the free-spirited? Personally I resemble the guy more but my sympathies lie with the girl.

The play has some excellent characterisations which have been brought to life by two of my favourite actors. One can feel the actors ageing from 6 to 60, Shernaz actually looks worn out, broken and ugly before she dies, Rajit as if he has put on extra 20 years after she dies.

A great evening which you carry with you for the night.

When you gotta go, you gotta go

Thus spake (well not exactly spake - thus said his footnote to mails rather) a gentleman I had come in contact with recently. And I cant agree with him more. Sad part is - am doing not much more other than agreeing with him.

Procrastination has become such an all consuming activity that even Hamlet would be proud. Its been two and half years and am still at it....beena ruke beena thake....

What is it that keeps me at it....the fear of unknown??? lack of courage??? that self destroying laziness??? There was this dear friend who displayed courage, determination and destiny has rewarded him for all of it and I am as happy for him as anybody can be. Now there is this gentleman who has taken this insanely courageous step and it makes me respect him just for the sheer insanity or bravado of it. Results are yet to come but they become secondary when deeds of such magnitude are committed. Whats most important is already done and achieved.

Hope still beckons...

SARKAR: A Review

We can call this blog a meeting of purposes, or a marriage of convinience, or demand meeting supply, or other things like that.

Actually, I was in search of new topics for my blog to keep it going and was in no mood to post one more of those sad musings (a la Atal Vajpayee...but then i think his musings were more hopeful) but nothing else worth reporting was happening....here is the demand.

Lots of time when I see a good movie (now lets not try and define a good movie), and it happens very often if its a Amitabh Bachchan movie, I itch to write something on it and it takes me two days of laziness to get over the itch. But after I saw Sarkar, I actually ended up writing about it i.e. a sort of movie review. The article has since been waiting a suitable platform to make itself public....here is the supply.

So what better thing to do than to let each one satisfy the need of other. Enjoy the review (I know its a little dated and irrelevant now but then....for my sake)

The Birth of a Son

Abhishek Bachchan has had everything going for him these days. A fine actor, the most eligible bachelor…. he had proved his mettle against all his contemporaries and established that he is second to none. Yet there was one hurdle still to overcome… the large looming shadow of his legendary father with whom avoiding comparison was impossible and equalling or overshadowing him – even more impossible. And then Amitabh Bachchan and Ram Gopal Verma come forward with Sarkar.

In the first half Amitabh Bachchan is the all powerful, never wrong custodian of his brand of justice – in short THE GOD, which he anyway has become after Black. In second half when the junior B informs the father that he has killed his brother, this invincible God, looking crestfallen, asks “Ab (What next)?” to his son with a question mark on his face. And how the son delivers! The supreme style with which he confronts the goons and avenges his father is breathtaking…. Abhishek Bachchan deserves all the kudos he has got and much more.

In the end while Amitabh is just the public face, Abhishek with all the responsibilities is the real SARKAR. That is the mantle Amitabh would like his son to don. And that is the challenge ahead of Abhishek.

On a sadder note

I have been waiting for some happy thoughts all this while to make a happy start for my blog but it currently it seems the blog would then remain blank forever. So whatever it is – lets get on

Follows some thoughts which were in context with me and may seem out of place or context over here but then I am writing it for myself…

Everybody understands everything.
You can either ignore hints pretending you did not understand them or you can accept the fact and bring forth your views on those topics if you do not agree with them, correct them in yourself if you agree with them, or both.

You think you can just keep quiet, not do anything, expect people to find something inside you and praise you for that and ignore the fact that you are not doing anything, you are fooling nobody but yourself.

People not having things to say about you is one of very bad things that can happen to you. This may be because they do not have any good thing to say about and do not want to say nasty things about you on your face.

Hope the next blog would find me in a more cheerful mode. At least for my sake…
